Armenian mezzo-soprano, with the unbelievable purity of her voice, low and hearty, with her extraordinary technique as well as her elegant and at the same time dramatic stage presence, encouraged many grand amateurs of the lyric.

Since an early age, mezzo-soprano was deeply involved in art life. Varduhi’s father, famous basse-bariton and People’s Artist (National Artist) of the Republic of Armenia, initiated Varduhi into classical music in her early childhood. At the age of 7 she enters Musical school where she studies piano and vocal simultaneously. She continues her studies in Musical college after «Romanos Melikyan», afterwards in Yerevan State Musical Conservatory after Komitas from where she recieves her diplomas of soloist and pedagogy.

She made her debut in 1996 in the Opera Theatre of Yerevan, interpreting the role of Parandzem in «Arshak II» by T.Tchukhatchyan. Varduhi has been a soloist in the same theatre since 1997 where she played the roles of Carmen in «Carmen» by G. Bizet, Pauline in «The Queen of Spades» («La Dame de Pique») by P. I. Tchaykovsky, Azucena in «Il Trovatore», Amneris in «Aida» by G. Verdi, Adalgisa in «Norma» by V. Bellini as well as other celebrated roles.

In 2004 she receives the National Award «Artavazd» in the «Best opera actress of the year» category.

Her professional experience in Europe starts in 1999, when she wins the International Contest of «Chant à Liège» (Belgium). During the following two years she becomes laureate of seven international competitions. In 2001 Varduhi wins the Grand Prix Maria Callas of Athens and the 1st prize in Montserrat Caballe International Singing Contest. The latter permitted her to obtain several bookings, invitations to prestigious festivals and many interesting offers from artistic agents.

She sang, amongst the others, in the Bolshoy Theatre (Moscow), Bunka Kaykan Theatre (Tokyo), in Teatro di Verdi (Sassari), in Teatro Sperimentale di Spoleto, in Grand Théâtre de Genève, «Festival Euro Mediterraneo» in Rome, in «Festival Castell de Peralada» in Spain, in MIDEM Festival in Cannes, in festival «Suoni di Primavera» in Italy, in «Flâneries Musicales d’Eté» of Reims, in Festival d’Ambronay in France.

Varduhi sang with Montserrat Caballe, Placido Domingo, Angela Ghiorghiu, Joyce DiDonato, Cecilia Gasdia, José Cura, Carlos Almaguer, Franco Vassallo, under the direction of Pierre Dominique Ponnelle, Alexander Joel, Fabio Pirona, Adrian Leaper, Frédéric Chaslin, Werner Pfaff, Miguel Ortega, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Stefano Fonzi, John Axelrod, George Pehlevanian etc.

She also performed concerts and recitals in the Carnegie Hall of NY, Salle Gaveau of Paris, in London Royal Festival Hall, Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, Victoria Hall of Geneva, Arena di Verona, Wiener Musikverein, Montreux Stravinsky Auditorium, in cities as Prague, Montréal, Rome, Catane, Madrid, Munich, Athens, Barcelona, Vienna, Copenhagen, Brussels, etc.

Varduhi’s repertoire ranged from the roles of Adalgisa in «Norma» by Bellini, Azucena in «Il Trovatore» by Verdi, Carmen in «Carmen» by Bizet, Amneris in «Aida» by Verdi, Charlotte in «Werther» by Massenet, Stephano in «Roméo et Juliette» by Gounod, Fenena in «Nabucco» by Verdi, Preziosilla in «I Vespri Siciliani» by Verdi, Santuzza in «Cavalleria Rusticana» by Mascagni, Kundry in «Parsifal» by Wagner, Paulina in «The Queen of Spades» («La Dame de Pique») by Tchaikovsky, Olga in «Eugene Onegin» by Tchaikovsky and others.

She participated in a TV program «Klassisch!» in Munich and appears very often on MEZZO TV channel.

Varduhi has also performed in film-opera «Norma» by Bellini directed by DECCA (DVD), in «Ode to Joy» by Aram Khatchatourian (CD, England), in «Dedication to Komitas» (CD, Yerevan), in «Cinderella» by Franc Martin (CD, Geneva), in «Ave Maria» (CD, Yerevan).

Her large repertoire ranges from baroque to the contemporary, as well as German Lieders, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian and Armenian composers’ melodies. Moreover, she sings (performs) in seven languages.

Her professional background motivated her to create the cultural association «AVETIS» in 2011. The association is aimed at promoting experienced artists and discovering young talents.
